WXTrak
is a weather information encoder which, when connected to a compatible weather staion and a radio,
will transmit the weather data at an adjustable rate.
It is a firmware update for
TinyTrak3
based devices to provide an inexpensive way to transmit
weather information without the need for a full TNC.
WXTrak is configured by connecting to a computer's serial port, and running a
simple configuration tool which allows setting of all user options.
It transmits the APRS weather protocol.
Currently supported weather stations include the Radio Shack WX200, the Oregon Scientific WM-918, and the
Peet Brothers Ultimeter 100, Ultimeter 800, Ultimeter 2000, and Ultimeter 2100.
Davis weather stations with the WeatherLink APRS adapter can use TinyPack firmware to transmit weather data for APRS.
Note: Some users have found that some Peet Bros weather stations will not output serial data when connected to a WXTrak. This can be corrected by placing a 4.7K resistor between serial pins 2 & 3.
WXTrak is currently available as a replacement firmware that can be loaded into any Byonics TinyTrak3 or Micro-Trak device using a PIC 16F1827 chip. Simply download the wxtrak_v1.4 zip file below, and follow the included instructions to replace the current firmware. To purchase a new WXTrak, just order a TinyTrak3Plus or TinyTrak3 chip from the
TinyTrak3 page, and either update the firmware yourself, or request in the order notes that it be shipped with the WXTrak firmware.
